shakespeare and his valentine

the above pictures basically summed up the morning event. we both gave our surprises away somehow. for me, i was frantically trying to whip the egg whites to make fluffy pancakes but the clanking noise from the kitchen got his suspicious. (anyway, i gave up before the soft peaks could form, hence, they didn't turn out as fluffy as i would have wanted them to be.) as for him, who the hell goes to the car after midnight to check if it was locked?! anyway, he was trying to rescue the chocolates since the dry ice pack could only last for five hours. and i love my cheery sunflower bouquet! with that sweet red heart right in the centre. i really should consider revamping the look of my blog, maybe replacing the roses with this sunflower.

i was the one who decided that we should visit the bird park - this remained as a surprise until we were nearing the expressway exit. "going bird park ah?" (and sorry baby, we're not visiting the tiger beer brewery. :P) i think my last visit was when i was in secondary school, and i recall being attached to the bird nursery for like two to three days, learning to take care of young birds and mixing feed. not that i remember very much how i landed up there. anyway, the bird park isn't as well-maintained or interesting as the zoological gardens, although the birds' and buddies show was still rather entertaining, birds can be pretty intelligent creatures too! (although i still won't fork out $10 to take a picture with a cockatoo, will consider if it's ah meng)

anyway, hilltop resturant located at jurong hill partly contributes to why i decided on going to the bird park. it's located all the way up this winding road beside the bird park, and don't try walking up unless you have strong calf muscles, that was the exact advice given by the park staff. so why hilltop restaurnt? this 70s-themed restaurant which isn't exactly the most hip place to be seen on valentine's day... but well, i was looking for a lunch venue which serves TEPPANYAKI (since it'll be the first time having it together), and after some googling, it seemed that this place had quite a number of good reviews. shima at goodwood park hotel was an alternative, but some found that it's overrated and too expensive. we had quite a good spread - sashimi appetiser, the in-house special beef, soft-shelled crab with egg, fresh mushrooms, tofu, olive rice (my favourite), garlic rice with chicken and bean sprouts (complimentary - strange, huh). we're probably not used to having teppanyaki food, although every dish turned out well, everything was a little too salty (and oily). well, at least we've tried, and on a special day too. :-)
hope everyone of you had a lovely valentine's or friendship day!
