mummy's birthday at paulaner munchen
the whole family was there for sunday brunch to celebrate mummy's birthday. i must say it's pretty good, at $30+++ you get to try a buffet of german and international dishes - it was odd to see salmon sashimi being served (!), but i guess it's almost a must-have for singapore buffets these days.
and btw, my parents are going off for their annual vacation in two hours' time, a two-week holiday in hainan, china (yes, china again!). i always wonder what's there to see there, i believe it's my dad's second trip there (umpteen times for my mum), and they're always trying to convince me that the island has developed into a major tourist area. alright, i shall wait for the photos to believe, haa. meanwhile, i'll be home alone for two weeks, boo hoo.

osaka
we arrived at osaka on sunday evening after transiting at tokyo. it's the same routine for us throughout - morning call at six (gosh!), breakfast at seven, and coach to leave at eight. since i'm the early bird sort, it didn't take me long to get used to the rhythm, although i can't say the same for my other half. for our package tour, we had a choice between universal studios and kobe, and obviously the bf who LOVES taking adventure rides chose the former. before heading to the theme park which starts operating only at ten, we visited osaka castle and were lucky to be treated to some great chrysanthemums display show as we entered.
osaka castle:
we had time to enjoy all the rides we planned to take - jaws boat ride, spider-man 4D adventure ride, jurassic park water ride, shrek 4D animation, waterworld stunt show, and i guess spider-man ride has to be our favourite, it was really good! we managed to take pictures with popeye&olive, elmo and woody woodpecker (was quite lucky with elmo as he was preparing to go for his break, i think i was the last) - for this you really have to be slightly thick-skinned and fight with the kids for your turn. hmmm, but japan generally isn't very tourist-friendly - there was no english/mandarin translation during the shrek movie.

yes, i do
he's hardly the one to initiate walks. he doesn't stammer/stutter. he usually does not bother about what i wear out. but last wednesday evening, he was not his usual self! after dropping by the convenient store to buy additional batteries for our camera, he actually suggested we go for an evening stroll around the lake kawaguchi near our hot springs hotel. well, it didn't occur to me he was going to propose that night (yes, it happened to be halloween night too), oh gosh! it was only in hindsight that i realised why he tried to persuade me (unsuccessfully) to change into a nicer blouse, why he grumbled about me wearing my gloves (it's cold!), why he insisted on walking back to this nice spot by the lake, and why he didn't mind lugging his backpack almost everywhere we went. i'll spare you guys the mushy lovey-dovey details, ask me in person if you want to know. :P to cut the story short, it was a round solitaire which fitted almost perfectly (it's being resized to one size smaller), yes, he was down on one knee and i agreed to the proposal almost immediately - at 845pm approximately. he's the person i love and want to grow old with, so why hesitate further. ;-)
well, of course, we couldn't resist snapping a self-portrait. the picture of lake kawaguchi was taken the next morning, what a perfect setting for a romantic proposal.
