another year older!
a few months ago, when i checked and found out that my birthday would fall on a a wednesday this year, i was actually quite disappointed - that meant there weren't be long weekend celebrations, or a possible short weekend getaway... but nevertheless just spending a day off work was quite a blessing. first of all, thank you to all those who remembered and sent their birthday well wishes, like the bf said, my phone didn't seem to stop beeping the entire day! *touched* and i guess it'll be lots of feasting sessions (as if it hasn't already started)!
okay now coming to the birthday program proper. as the pictures said it all - partner arrived with my birthday cake and surprise gift, an awfully chocolate cake (the bf didn't remember i had it last year too but a slightly different flavour, and although you probably can't tell, the wordings on the cake was quite badly done... even a novice like me probably can pipe better), the birthday song, and finally, it's gift-opening time, and ta-dah (!), it's a laptop bag for me to lug my laptop (and notebook/files/whatever...) to and fro work. when i told JL about what happened to the present, he actually said i was being very evil... well, have you guys already realised that the present i opened and the final one in the picture looked different!?! hahaha. yup, i actually thought the one he chose was a little too rugged looking (disclaimer: i really think it suits him way better, with a more guyish and cool feel), also a tad too big for me. so we spent the afternoon searching for one to exchange for at the funan challenger, frankly, even i had a hard time trying to decide. lesson learnt when buying laptop bags: it'll be wise to bring along your laptop, fit it in and try carrying it - it's really about balancing between functionality and looks! i already started using it and am totally in love with it! yay! i hope the bf isn't too upset he didn't make the right choice the first time round... anyway, he was still the one who pointed out to me to try this final one! so... *hugz + pet*

and the second part of the day was of course, the dinner programme! it was a surprise again, and i seriously didn't guess it until we started heading back west, and it just struck me that "hey, are we going to rochester park!?! i've never been there!" and yes, it's one rochester! it's like one of those places you've heard/read so much about but never seriously thought of going. he mentioned it was initially meant for valentine's day this year, and thank god, reservations were full then! we had onion focaccia, portobello mushrooms (with vinaigrette) and field mushroom soup as starters, they were all excellent and set our standards high for the rest of the night. both the main course - pan-seared seabass (usually for ladies) and spiced braised lamb shank (well-liked by men) - were highly recommnded by the lady who served us, and they really bowled me over. i like the combination of mango and fish (strange but surprisingly tasty), while the lamb was incredibly tender and flavourful (and the serving size was not small even for a guy). no wonder this place has got great reviews, and i'll give extra points for the service and serenity anytime. :-) thank you my love for picking such a terrific place!

hope you guys enjoyed the pictures and update as much as i enjoyed the day. i was made a really happy birthday gal. ;-)
