birthday feasting
i'm down with a bad throat, slight flu and mild fever. must be all the sinful food over the past few days.
let's blog about friday first - i had dinner at pasta de waraku with my entire team on friday evening, and it was kind of a celebratory meal to reward ourselves after a whole week of field work (that just reminds me that my therapist mentioned i became tanner and asked if i've been out in the sun, argh). you'll be spoilt for choice, there must have been at least 40 types of pasta choices, and everything comes with pictures. it wasn't that difficult a choice for me, i decided to be more adventurous and forgo my usual favourite - seafood pasta in tomato based sauce - with something a little more exotic (more jappy!). i didn't regret my choice, i really enjoyed my eel&omelette spaghetti but the serving size was disgustingly small even by my standards. well, they didn't drop any hints that there was going to be a surprise birthday cake (for me), hence, so i went ahead with my order of green tea ice-cream (i really didn't want to share after the first experience with the pasta). yummmmmmm!
not soon after the dessert, the trio who sneakily went off came back with a chocolate fudge cake from angie's the choice! they insisted on singing the happy birthday song again because i forgot to make a wish (and i really wish this will come true), and presented me with the birthday card/present. there were birthday wishes from all ten of them, very sweet indeed, and i'm not even sure if i deserve all the comments they've written. they know i've been working too hard, so they rewarded me with a citispa gift voucher so that i can "rest my mind and revitalise my soul" (and probably get rid of my dark eye rings in time for the wedding). what a cute bunch! we ended the night with a round of drinks at harry's bar! oh a great discovery, i can tie a knot out of a cherry stem!

on saturday, i finally got to meet up with xp and the rest to celebrate OUR birthdays. we missed jack this time round since he's away for work, and i can't believe we'll not get to see him till next january. :-( we went for high tea at goodwood park hotel... it was english tea styled buffet which entitles you to only two drinks each (boring me had two rounds of iced tea). the selection of cakes/sandwiches was nothing to wow about, but almost everything i tasted was good, especially the bread&butter pudding with vanilla sauce!
both xp and i were eyeing new sports watches to replace our timex... we both had broken watch straps and were too lazy to go all the way to tannery lane to get it changed at the authorised agent (btw, we concluded timex watch straps are not made to last for REAL USERS). nothing from nike/adidas/puma caught our eye, so we went for casio baby G which probably had the widest range these days. sad to say, i found out only after buying my watch that bencoolen sells it at about 35% cheaper than even the 10% discounted price from city chain! the only saving grace is that we've only paid a deposit for xp's watch to be transferred from another outlet... so we probably will try to get back the deposit and purchase it from bencoolen. and then we'll both have new cool sports watches to wear!
