our little china doll
this is ashley with her new china doll haircut, soothing her teething pains on her new high chair.
these pictures were taken when she went for her immunisation jabs last thursday.
anti-clockwise from top left:
(1) she's always taking LONG naps when we're in a hurry to go out! she typically takes a hour-long nap after her morning bath... but that morning, she stretched it till almost two hours! we had to carry her out of her cot, else she would be late for her appointment - maybe she knows she's not going out to have fun.
(2) being carried by daddy just after her jabs - by the way, it's two jabs - one on each thigh. she only made a soft yell when the needles went in, and then she just went silent as if nothing happened - no screams, no tears. what a brave darling!
(3) daddy pressing the cotton wool against her injection site.
(4) "i'm feeling bored, when can we head home?" there is a 15-minute waiting period, in case of sudden reaction to the jabs, luckily we brought along her colourful loops for her to chew on.
(5) before we head home, we went to the supermarket (her first time into NTUC!) to look for her rice cereals. i was quite keen to start her on the brown rice cereals from healthy times after seeing several good reviews on the baby forums. anyway, it was out of stock (there's only the oatmeal one that's shown here). btw, we went searching for it at a few NTUC/cold storage but to no avail - most places do not have the whole range of cereals and in particular, the brown rice one was sold out everywhere! (in any case, i bought bellamy's baby rice from cold storage jelita in the end.)
lastly, ashley's stats @ 5m14d - weight = 8.22kg (>97th percentile - i think she's just slightly OUT OF THE CURVE - oh no!), height = 66.1cm (75th percentile - thankfully above average!), head circumference = 43cm (90th percentile). i think based on her height and weight combined, she's about 97th percentile (phew, not an outlier!). anyway, the nurse said that there's no concern since she's on total breastmilk, and such babies will lose weight once they learnt how to crawl and walk - eh, we shall see.

our precious
ashley is 5+ months already, and she's becoming even more fun-loving than before. she's learning how to sit up now, although she still needs her arms to support herself. she's also trying to "crawl", although technically, she's has only started to learn how to go into the crawling position, and will pounce forward, especially when she wants to reach out for her toys. the other thing about her is that she likes being supported while standing up... perhaps she finds it interesting to be able to see things in a different perspective.
we also started to borrow some books for her whenever we have the time for the library... and i'm trying to insert a few minutes of reading and nursery rhmye singing (she definitely prefers this) as part of her bedtime ritual. it's not easy actually since our little girl needs her beauty sleep before 8pm. we try to go back home as early as we can from work, but by the time we get back and have a quick dinner, she's already starting to be very cranky. anyway, the rest of the pictures were taken this morning soon after she woke up - we notice that she's definitely smiley every morning when she wakes up - well, i guess i would to, if i am allowed to sleep 12 hours in a stretch!!! talking about sleep, i haven't slept through the night since she was borned... the sacrifice of total breastfeeding. and there she goes, flipping all over the bed, and going onto her crawling pose. btw, this baby gap overall was a present from aunty hazel before ashley was even borned, and she is finally able to fit into it (a tad long, but sure feels comfy). :-)
btw, we're going to start her on solids once she turns 6 months. actually she has already shown all the signs of being able to take solids - picks up objects and places them into mouth, able to sit up (although support is required), very interested when others are eating - and we have gotten ready her high chair, we are still resisting and will put her on milk all the way till she's 6 months (for non-parents, total milk for the first 6 months is recommended especially if there is a family history of allergies. solids will also help provide the iron required around the 6-months mark, the time when the iron stores start to deplete). now all we're lacking is a steamer and blender to make all the delicious baby purees! i'm quite keen to splurge on this steamer-cum-blender from philips avent, just so that it's more convenient for my mum (& us) to prepare her food.

29th
it's indeed different this year, with our little addition. but what's the same is that the hubby still bothered to plan a little surprise for me. :-) like i mentioned before, it's tough to go out for dinners these days 'cos ashley will need her sleep before 8... i insisted that we can't go for dinner, so he had to change the reservation to lunch. i can't believe that i'm hitting 30... and i guess like what a colleague told me, my greatest achievement this year has to be giving birth to ashley. i'm glad i had my first kid before 30, 'cos i'm not really sure if i will still have the energy to keep up with breastfeeding, night feeds, etc... and i'm sure the lack of sleep for the past many months is contributing to my wrinkles.
oh anyway, back to the birthday celebration. the hubby planned the lunch to be at gordon grill at goodwood park hotel. we both had the lunch set - 4-course for him, and 3-course for me (everything's the same but i did without the appetisers), and the unique part was that they served small samples of 3 appetisers, 3 soups, and 2 desserts... the pictures will tell you that we had no regrets! the ambience was good + service was top-notch (now i feel bad for not tipping!), they gave us a private area knowing that we're bringing along a kid... and most importantly, the food was top-notch. i'm pretty sure this is the best and most value-for-money meal we had so far!
(1) a single green cymbidium orchid... coincidentally, that's also the flower i chose for our wedding photoshoot.
(2) the basket of warm bread... we had another serving. :-)
(3) the hubby's appetisers - he chose sscargots, hokkaido scallop and foie gras.
(4) we had the same soup sampler - lobster bisque, mushroom and french onion.
(5) we also chose the same main course, which was the beef fillet - yummm.
(6) lastly, our dessert - chocolate hazelnut tart + creme brulee, served with tea.
haha, see little ashley eyeing my bread roll...! btw, the dress i'm wearing is my birthday present courtesy of the hubby - got to wear something new on my birthday right! anyway, i was quite close to buying it for chinese new year earlier this year, but decided to cut down on expenses at that time... i'm glad it's still in stock - thank you, daddy! :-D
